1997-1998 Highlights
Accomplishments:
- Completed a statewide, statistically valid, customer satisfaction survey.
- With the Governor's Policy Team, Co-sponsored statewide conference which provided over 200 persons with disabilities and advocates an opportunity to meet with members of the Governor's Cabinet.
- Continued advocacy with Federal legislators regarding reauthorization of the Rehabilitation Act and contents of the Workforce Investment Partnership Act.
- Developed a network of contacts at the state level regarding implementation of one-stop-shops within the Department of Labor and Industry.
- Provided testimony and developed a position paper regarding Pennsylvania HB 1800 (Workforce Development).
- Conducted 4 Public Forums to develop recommendations on implementation of the Governor's Disability Agenda.
- Increased Council involvement in OVR planning process and OVR workgroups.
- Tripled distribution of the Annual Report - to over 600 recipients.
- Developed and distributed an information brochure about the Rehabilitation Council.
- Expanded membership of the Executive Committee.
- Developed decision making protocols to clarify roles and responsibilities of staff and Council members.
- Increased the number and scope of Committee meetings and activities.
Continuing Challenges (as of September 30, 1998)
- Secure new appointments and reappointments from the Governor's Office.
- Increase the number of consumers on the Council (relates to previous item).
- Persevere with various state departments and bureaus regarding follow-up to the Governor's Cabinet Conference.
- Establishing meaningful, ongoing, relationships with other state and national Councils and government representatives
