Rehabilition Advisory Council 1994-95 Annual Report

IV. FY 1995-1996 PLANS / GOALS

The RAC has identified areas of need with respect to its own organizational development.

A. Committee Structure

During the first year of operation, the RAC established six committees to focus on specific RAC functions. They were:

  1. Community / Outreach to the unserved and underserved.
  2. Customer Satisfaction.
  3. Human Resource Development.
  4. Rehabilitation Act compliance, employment and program initiatives.
  5. Technology.
  6. Transitioning.

Due to membership resignations and scheduling difficulties, most of the committees have not been able to meet on a regular basis. This difficulty resulted in the formation of periodic Ad-Hoc committees to complete specific tasks in a timely manner. The Council sees a strong need to revisit the committee structure and reassess whether it is the best option available.

Goal(s):

  1. Conduct a RAC Retreat to address organizational structure, goal planning, outcome measurements, and other strategic issues as identified by the Council.

B. Membership and Meeting Participation

As noted, there have been a number of resignations which, while not impacting minimum requirements, have depleted the number of persons available to carry out the functions of the RAC. The Council also sees a need to diversify ethnic representation and strengthen representation from the business community and civic organizations.

Goal(s):

  1. Develop and implement a process to generate a broad base of nominations for RAC appointments to be forwarded to the Governor so that representation categories required by federal regulations are amply filled.
  2. Work with OVR Central Office, the Secretary and the Governor's office to develop a structure for forwarding nominations for consideration, facilitating appointments, and maintaining active participation of Council members.
