HISTORY and COMPOSITIONThe Pennsylvania Rehabilitation Advisory Council (RAC) was established in compliance with the Federal Rehabilitation Act of 1992 to provide citizen input into policies and delivery systems of the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation. Members of the RAC are appointed by the Governor. During this reporting period the RAC consisted of 26 members including persons with disabilities, parents and guardians of persons with disabilities, advocates, service providers and representatives of the business community. A majority of the council consists of persons with disabilities, as required by the Act. Membership is also geographically diverse to assure that urban, suburban and rural perspectives are provided. Additionally, 51 percent of the RAC mandated representation must include: persons with disabilities; persons not employed by the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation; parents, family members, guardians, advocates or authorized representatives of individuals with disabilities who have difficulty representing themselves; and current applicants or former recipients of OVR services. |
