Ms. Passle Helminski called the meeting to order at 10:00 a.m.
There were not enough members present on the call to approve the agenda and minutes of the last call.
All members that were on the call and went to visit the state legislators stated they thought the visits were successful. Ms. Passle Helminski stated that Ms. Sandi Vito, Acting Secretary of Labor and Industry, would like to come to a Full Council meeting and talk to the Council members. Ms. Helminski also stated she would like to plan visits to the legislators each time there is a Council meeting in Harrisburg. Mr. Joseph Kraher suggested that each member of the Council get a copy of the NRA advocacy booklet that was handed out at the NRA conference. Staff informed members that the Council does have an advocacy brochure that was made up several years ago and is available at all Council meetings. Members on the call also talked about photo identification cards for everyone to carry when visiting legislators. Staff reported some members do have ID cards and will look into this further.
Members reviewed the goals and decided to keep just one main goal, but add a step to educate and train all members of the Council to be able to advocate with legislators locally and nationally. Ms. Helminski stated she thought it would be a good idea, that during introductions at the Council meeting, the chairperson should ask each member if they advocated by visiting or sending an email to their legislators.
The next meeting of the Legislative Committee will be on July 29, 2008 at 10:00 a.m.
The meeting adjourned at 11:00 a.m.
